The Sabara-tantra gives a list of twelve sages to whom the Käpälika doctrine was revealed: Adinātha, Anādi, Kāla, Atikālaka, Karāla, Vikarāla, Mahākāla, Kāla- bhairavanātha, Bațuka, Bhūtanātha, Vīranātha, and Śrīkantha. These twelve had twelve disciples: Nāgārjuna, Jadabharata, Hariścandra, Satyanātha, Bhimanātha, Gorakşa, Carpața, Avadya, Vairāgya, Kanthādhārin, Jalandhara, and Malayārjuna.
