A 3D visualization of the touchdown of Jeju Airlines flight 2216
As I suspected, the pilot, in an attempt to minimize the impact, lost half the runway, raising several questions: 1. According to a video, the aircraft was configured for landing prior to the bird strike, so the hydraulic failure cannot be used as an excuse since they opted for a go-around. 2. The pilot was a highly experienced aviator with 7,000 hours of flight time. Why was the aircraft not configured for landing before the belly touchdown? 3. Why did the pilot not attempt a second go-around, considering that the other engine was still operating?5
