When Uber Moto Becomes a Waiting Game: My Frustrating Experience
Lately, I’ve been facing a recurring issue with Uber Moto rides. Here’s the scenario: I book a bike ride, the driver accepts and then shows up at the pickup location only to ask, “Bhai, kaha jaana hai?” (Where do you want to go?). When I show them the destination on the app, the response is usually something like, “Yaha nahi jaaunga” (I won’t go there) or “Paise kam show kar raha hai, yeh toh nahi jaayenge” (The fare is too low, I’m not going). What’s frustrating is that the app clearly displays the destination, the distance, and the estimated time required. Despite this, riders accept the trip only to reject it later in person. They don’t even offer a solution like asking for extra payment. Instead, they wait for you to cancel the ride or waste your time. This has happened to me so often that I now expect to waste at least 30 minutes in this pointless back-and-forth every time I book a bike ride. For example, I once had to travel 25 km. The Uber Moto fare was ₹200, while a cab was ₹350 or more. Since I was traveling alone, I chose the cheaper option. But as usual, the driver called me after accepting the ride and asked, “Where do you need to go?” When I told him, his excuse was, “Bhaiya, charger nahi hai phone ka” (My phone’s not charged) or “Petrol nahi hai yaar itni door ke liye” (I don’t have enough fuel for that distance). If that’s the case, why accept the ride in the first place? They’ll even refuse to cancel the ride themselves and make you wait another 5-10 minutes, forcing you to cancel the trip or wait for the app to assign a new driver. At this point, I’m so frustrated that I’m seriously considering buying a bike for myself, even though I’m just a student. It would save me so much time and energy. Has anyone else experienced this? How do you deal with such situations?4
