When will our country learn courtesy?

Today in the Delhi Metro, I politely requested an Uncle (senior citizen) who was travelling with his wife and son, to shift a couple of seats, to the senior citizen's seat, so that I can request a seat as well. This family had bags and were not from Delhi. As soon as I said 'Uncle, aap pls 2 seat shift hojao, pls..mujhe bhi seat mil jayegi' the aunty shouted at me like anything! She said how dare I request them? And started calling me names. I was numb to he honest. I am a married grown up man and i was extremely polite. I have travelled abroad very widely and this can only happen in this country. I dont think we will ever progress and be happy as a society. Never asking for a favor in the metro again!
