Fed up of term "Delhi Belly": Building an app to fight for cleaner street food in India
**The Origin Story:** A few days back, I was traveling with a Japanese friend in Delhi. Even after I warned him, he really wanted to try street food. He had this list of famous places to try - including this super popular chaat place. When we got there, I was honestly embarrassed by the hygiene standards despite its popularity. As expected, he got sick (though he was surprisingly cool about it and loved the food anyway!). After seeing countless foreigners' videos mocking "Delhi Belly," I realized something needed to change. **The App Idea:** Think of it as YELP, but with a laser focus on hygiene and food safety. Here's the breakdown: - A food discovery app highlighting clean, quality food from street vendors and small establishments - Ranks vendors primarily on hygiene practices and food quality, not just popularity - Users rate vendors based on actual cleanliness standards, not just taste - Transparent ranking system: maintain high standards = better visibility - Hygiene and quality ranking will help discover more hidden gems irrespective of their size and popularity **Why It's Different from Zomato/Swiggy:** Instead of chasing trending spots or fancy photos, we're building a trust-based platform. Clean kitchen > Instagram aesthetics. **Current Status:** - Solo developer working from scratch - Planning to make it open source - Need help figuring out monetization that won't compromise the app's integrity **I Need Your Brutal Honesty:** 1. Will this actually work? Be ruthless with your feedback 2. How would you monetize this while keeping it genuine? 3. What features would make you trust and use this app? 4. Any insights from similar projects/experiences? 5. Interested in contributing? (It's going to be open source!) Look, I know this won't solve everything. But if it helps even 1% of people find cleaner street food options, I'll consider it a win. P.S. - Building this solo is tough but I'm determined. All ideas, criticisms, and collaboration offers are welcome! Let's make street food safer, one vendor at a time.3
