People asking for money in our property

So today a person stepped into our property and came to the house entrance playing his dhol loudly without our permission and was asking for money. I did not answer the door out of spite, he was continuously playing for 10 mins and then he left. Was it the right thing to do or I should have given him 10-20 rupees? and is this common in Dehradun?
