Help me buy a chess board for my bf

Hi guys, I am new to this sub. My bf loves playing chess but he doesn't own a board. He has played on e board or with his friends. I am planning to get a chess board for his birthday. I am not sure which brand to buy and what should be the dimensions of the board. I have heard him saying that he doesn't prefer smaller mini boards. Please help me with good brand and big enough dimensions. Is 12x12 big enough? Thank you
