wrong diagnoses (leading to costly procedures) by popular hospitals in Chennai
I recently had an experience that opened my eyes to the harsh reality in Chennai’s popular hospitals. A close family member, with little knowledge of medical procedures, was rushed to one of these hospitals with severe pain. The doctor immediately recommended a series of costly tests and procedures. No one thought to question it—after all, the doctor’s word is almost like Krishna's Bhagawat gita verses. But when we sought a second opinion, another known doctor gave an entirely different diagnosis and a simpler treatment plan. And yet, these two doctors couldn’t have been further apart in their approach, even though both were highly regarded. It hit me hard—most patients, especially the poor ones, don’t have the knowledge or the means to dig deeper or question what's being recommended. They trust what’s told to them, believing their doctor’s advice is sacred. But in reality, it’s all about business!!! it's no secret that doctors with salaries above 40-50LPA are expected to bring in business, no matter what it takes (misdiagnoses, unnecessary tests, and expensive procedures). If those doctors don’t bring in the revenue, they’re gone. It's heartbreaking to think that lives are being put at risk just for the sake of profits, while the patients who suffer the most are the ones who can’t afford to speak up.3
