When did tipping become an entitlement?
THIS IS INFURIATING. INFURIATING AF. I DONT KNOW IF THIS IS A METRO CITY THING OR ITS EVERYWHERE. Everyone expects a tip these days. Yesterday the gas cylinder anna came to deliver the cylinder, and it was Rs.818. Since I didn't have exact change (as my mom used to pay regularly), I paid him 900 and was expecting 80rs back or expect him to say that he didn't have change. He gave me back only 40rs and when I asked him, he said "Amma epavume kudupanga pa enaku". Now make no mistake, I would've tipped him 20 myself if he had given me the change. But instead he took the tips for himself. I told him "I'm not my mom, and I expect the change back". And after talking for a while, he gave me back the change with a resented look on his face and said "40 rubai ku kanaku pakarenga. Nalla ila sir neenga panradhu". Similarly, I bought some stuff from Viveks and my house was literally 500m away from the showroom. I told my dad that, I'll tie bungee rope with the items on the activa and get all the things by doing 5 trips as they mentioned the delivery charge was Rs.500. But my dad didn't want to take the risk. Once the delivery guys came and delivered everything, they were expecting something. I hesitantly gave him Rs.50 and he was like "enna thala 50 ruba tharanga. Enga 2 per ku epdi pathum". I took it back and told them "ara kilometer kuda ila, already 500 pay panitom, onum ila ini kuduka nu" and I saw the same face on them similar to the gas anna. I talked to my parents about both the situations and they are like "It's okay. They need it. Ivalo kashtapatu they are working physically la, and they have a wage system. So it will help them". And I told my mom to not make it a habit to tip every damn person from Gas anna, postman, Gurkha (for some reason). This is getting out of hand seriously. They are pulling a guilt trip card every damn time. Are they thinking if we are working with laptops in an ac room we'll have more money or what is it exactly? They can freely ask 100rs tip from each customer, ana maasam oru 5 percent increment vaanga we are also busting our asses. I was never against tipping as I thought it would motivate people and help them financially too. But from now on, I'm not going to tip anybody and I don't care if I come across as a cheap kanjoos.3
