Unfair School Fee Structures in Private CBSE & Matriculation Schools – Where’s the Regulation?
I’ve been really bothered by how private schools (CBSE, Matriculation, etc.) structure their fees. Many of them seem to operate more like businesses than educational institutions, with little to no regulation controlling their pricing. While I’m not saying all schools are like this, a significant number seem to be prioritizing profit over quality education. This issue is particularly troubling for middle-class and lower-middle-class families. The financial burden is huge, yet we are left with no choice because we want our children to have the best possible education and exposure. The reality today is that education is no longer just about what is being taught—it’s about how effectively it’s being taught and the kind of opportunities children get. I personally studied in a government school my whole life, so I understand the state of the system. While some may argue that we should just enroll our kids in government schools, let’s be practical—times have changed, and competition is tougher than ever. We’ve moved from education for everyone to better education for everyone, but affordability is becoming a serious challenge. Why is there no regulatory body to ensure a fair fee structure? How do we address this issue without compromising our children’s future? Would love to hear your thoughts—let’s have a productive discussion on this!1
