Obsession over skin colour
I don't know if this is the right sub but I want to rant about something. I know this has been discussed in depth but l still can't digest it. I gave birth to my son 5 months ago and a recurring pattern I see in my in laws, relatives and guests is their constant comments about baby's skin colour. My mil and fil (who are fair) openly declare that they are glad my son has fair skin and is lucky! My bil who is 5 years younger than me is wheatish but still comments that baby looks fair today or oh god! Baby looks a bit darker today and such. I have started feeling that their love is conditional and if my son had a different skin tone, they would not have loved him this much and would constantly put him down or try to make him 'better'. They also comment on his slightly flat nose and try to massage it to 'straightness'. Why are we tamilians who are proudly adapted to our climate conditions ashamed of something that's not even in our control? It's pure genetics. Same logic can be applied for height, hair and other physical features. I really want to break the chain with my son and make him be confident in his own skin and teach him to not judge others by their physical attributes that they have no control over.5
