My cooks son taught driving to someone and they met with an accident

My cook’s son is from a poor family. He was trying to teach someone driving and they met with an accident. They didn’t have L board written anywhere. The guy who he taught driving to is the legal owner of the car too. Now that guy is pressing for charges saying he will twist the case saying that this guy was driving the car. What can he do? Any legal guidance?
