Farther in law

My farher in law 1) is my farher in law an abuser? 2) is my mother in law an enabler? 3) am I wrong for disrespecting my elders ? 4) what can I do for my wife ? 5) my wife says even after this incident her father will not change. Is this possible ? I told her I think he would be more careful.. I met my wife in her early 20s. Her father wanted us to be engaged before we could go out. I persuaded my family and made it happen. One year later he wanted her to do her master's she wanted to settle down. He beat her with a belt.... I was told to not to anyrhing Three years later ( engaged nor married ) I came to visit my partner. I had a fever and slept in the guest room.He came back and saw me sleeping. He slapped my mother in law and called my partner a prostitute / slut... I was told not do Anything ... We married after 8 years of engagement .. 2024 my farher in law's brorher accused my mother in law of spreading rumours. My fil punched mil and beat her with a belt till she was blue black. I was told not to do anything....my mil said he problem was my fil'a brother.. Last week we stayed at my in law house temporarily. Right in front of me my father in law raised his voice and talked down to my pregnant wife with my mother in law sitting quietly and looking... I lost it. I packed our bags and told my wife to leave with me.. I raised my voice and shouted at that man.. I was shaking and punched my chest willing him fight..my silent mother in law held my hand asking me to calm down saying that I was over reacting and I shouldn't interfere.... She said you will know when you have a daughter.. I told my father in law that's he was a loser and told my mother in law that's she didn't deserve us.. My wife and I left driving around till we found a room.. Since then my mil has been calling my wife daily saying that I was rude and should not have interfered and that she was unhappy .she says my fil only raised his voice and his tone wasnr right and that we should know that he does only what he thinks is right and should tolerate... She also keeps telling me wife that she is sick and my wife by not visiting her is making my mil sick ... I wish I had told him what a disgrace of a human he was for touching a woman the way he did ...j regret not being clear in my opinion... Now it's all become my fault ...
