Desperate measures against waterlogging
I recently visited an area notorious for severe waterlogging, where even slight rainfall renders the 100-foot wide road impassable. During heavy rains, the water rises to waist-high levels, effectively cutting off access. Residents living in ground-floor homes face the additional ordeal of frequent flooding, with water entering their homes like an unwelcome guest almost every time it rains. The situation takes a dire turn when the pressure of stagnant water forces sewage to back up into homes through toilets, rendering them uninhabitable for weeks. Presumably fed up with these chronic issues, people have resorted to constructing makeshift dams to elevate their vaasapadis in hopes of keeping the water at bay. Some imdividual houseowners have even gone to extremes, pouring tons of concrete to create raised ramps for vehicle access. While flooding is a familiar sight on TV for many, for these residents, even minor rainfall can be a nightmare. Anyways I found these improvised solutions intriguing enough to share here.2
