Are there Local Trains from Egmore/Central to Tambaram

So I just came to Chennai around 2 weeks back and have never really used local trains there. I will go to my hometown every week and reaching Kilambakkam bus terminus through straight bus has been a huge pain. So I wanted to ask are there local trains running from Egmore/Central to Tambaram after 6pm. If yes, how frequently are they running and where to buy tickets and how much would they cost? Sorry I have never travelled in Local trains. Your guidance would help.
