Replaced my BMW 520d with the Innova HyCross. First impressions.
And I couldn't be happier. After using the 5 series for 10 years, it was finally time to get a practical car that ticks most of the boxes. Top priorities were: 1. Space to seat 5 in comfort 2. High ground clearance 3. Reliable, obv. 4. Fuel efficient Researched a LOT and I had the safari and xuv700 in my list too. But the major drawbacks were: Tata - Well, I don't need to go over them. Mahindra - The second row didn't slide to make more space in the third row. Things I like about the Innova in the last 500kms I have driven: 1. AMAZING comfort. All three rows are super comfy especially on Mumbai roads. I am 6ft and I could sit comfortably in the third row for an hour atleast. 2. Pretty good fuel efficiency, I have managed to extract 16-18kmpl in the city. With a heavy foot, you can expect upto 9-10kmpl. 3. Very nice to drive with the smooth transition from EV to ICE. The EPS is on point. Better than my BMW if I'm honest. Ride is slightly stiff on the ZX variant due to the LP tyres but manageable. 4. I love the way it looks. Things I don't like: 1. 360 camera. Could be clearer but gets the job done. 2. Lack of enough ambient lighting. Cost cutting done here. 3. A better instrument cluster could be given. 4. Audio system is mediocre but not bad. Didn't feel the need to upgrade. 5. Headlight throw could be better 6. No rain sensing wipers Things others don't like but I love: 1. Monocoque: To be honest, I don't think I will ever go off-road to get a proper LF SUV. The monocoque is a lot easy to drive and NVH levels are absolutely insane. 2. The infotainment: yeah it's pretty boring but man the aspect ratio is so good for navigation and with carplay it looks great. I rarely use it without carplay. Sadly, android auto is wired. 3. Plasticky cabin: let me be honest, this is a boon if you are staying in a city like Mumbai. Due to the heat, the door handles and other leather and rubber parts used to melt and get sticky inside. The hard plastic literally makes it a lot easier and affordable to maintain the car. So far that's about it. Will keep you guys updated as I drive more. Hope to have a great experience with this.3
