How did SRK succeed so much as a villain and an anti hero
Both Darr and Baazigar were era defining films which became such big hits both did collosal business. They catapulted SRK too the top from the promising newcomer of Deewana and Raju Bangaya Gentlemen he became a bonafied superstar. He took the limelight away from Sunny Deol who was ruling the roost. Why did his predecessors never got such success Dilip Kumar tried to do grey shade roles with Amar and Foothpath both are terribly forgotten although footpath did moderately well Dharmendra did villainous role in Aayi Milan Ki Bela although the movie was a hit it didn't create the impact that SRK did & Dharmendra did overshadow Rajendra Kumar by any means necessary like what happened in Darr Amitabh Bachchan did a negative role in Parwana which was a huge flop and forgotten Vinod Khanna and Shatrughan Sinha found reasonable amount of success with grey shades roles in Movies like Aan Milo Sajna,Anokhi Ada,Mera Goan Mera Desh , Khilona and Bhai Ho Toh Aisa. But these movies never took them too superstardom Vinod Khanna became a superstar in the mid 70s when he did multiple multi star cast films with Amitabh Bachchan Even Rajesh Khanna failed when he did Red Rose although a very good movie. Very well made and Rajesh Khanna acted very well in it. After SRK we saw Akshay Kumar in Ajnabee, Ranveer Singh in Padmavaat really do villainous roles with elan. Why were movies like Baazigar,Darr and Anjaam such big trendsetters.2
