Bollywood Needs a Script Review Committee
Bollywood films are mounted with huge astronomical budgets but their scripts are often nonsensical. Nowadays most of them are flopping. I just dont understand why their scripts dont undergo proper review or scrutiny. The scripts are often so illogical that its baffling. A few days ago, i had an idea: what if bollywood producers formed a review committee of 50 members?? This committee could include 20 college students majoring in mass media, 10 professional film critics and 20 regular audience members who are avid bollywood fans. To ensure diverse perspectives, the committee could also be divided into different age groups. Once a script is finalized, it could be shared with this committee for feedback. The members could suggest changes and provide valid reasoning for their recommendations. This would help ensure that the scripts have at least some level of logic and coherence. Even for mass masala films, the committee could offer genre specific suggestions to improve the story. After the film is completed, the committee could be invited to a special screening. They could then provide feedback on whether certain scenes need revisions and explain why. This step would further refine the film before its release. Such a process would not only result in better scripts but also give aspiring filmmakers, especially those studying mass media, valuable insights into scriptwriting and filmmaking. It would be a practical learning experience for them. As for the cost, each committee member could be paid 10k rs per project. With 50 members, the total cost would amount to rs 5 lakh, which is negligible compared to the hundreds of crores spent on these films. If producers can spend extravagantly on nonsensical scripts, surely they can allocate a small fraction of the budget to ensure the script is well reviewed, right?? To maintain confidentiality, the committee members could sign NDAs. Any breach of the agreement would result in hefty fines, ensuring that the scripts remain secure.4
