Rise of Rudeness
Having lived in Bangalore for the past eight years, I've noticed a significant shift in people's attitudes over the last two years. Unfortunately, many individuals seem to have become increasingly rude and confrontational, often resorting to verbal abuse. I've encountered two direct incidents in the past three months. 1. During an evening walk, a woman from a first-floor apartment shouted at me to inform her boyfriend, who was sitting on the roadside. It appeared they had an argument, and despite my attempts to call him multiple times, he did not respond. When I snapped my fingers to get his attention, he began verbally abusing me with offensive language (too many "L" words in kannada). 2. While riding my bike, I noticed another person distracted by his phone, completely oblivious to the road. I honked repeatedly, but he remained focused on his phone. In a last-ditch effort to alert him, I called out "Aye." He stopped and retaliate with the same "L" words in kannada and wanted to have a fight. I didn't stop and took my route. As a father of a three-year-old, I find myself increasingly concerned about the behaviour of the people. This makes me feel my hometown is safe to live. Sorry for venting out.5
