Got Scammed by a Swiggy Delivery Guy – New Scam In The City

Hey everyone, I wanted to share something that happened to me today while ordering from Swiggy. It was both frustrating and eye-opening, and I hope it helps others avoid getting scammed. So, as usual, I ordered my food, and right before the delivery, I got a call from the delivery partner. The name on the app was "Gousia Begum" (a female name), but the person on the call was a guy. Since the call came from Swiggy’s official number, I didn’t think much of it. The guy said there was an issue with Swiggy payments and that my prepaid amount would be refunded in 30–40 minutes. Meanwhile, he asked me to pay the delivery partner directly. It sounded legit, so I agreed. When he arrived, he asked me to pay ₹412 (my order value) via a QR code. The QR was from something called "Fampay" (never heard of it before). While I was paying, he casually mentioned that Fampay has a ₹1,000 minimum outgoing transaction limit. I didn’t pay much attention to it at the time and made the payment. But 15–20 minutes later, he called again. This time, he said my refund had been "canceled by Swiggy," and he would process it himself. However, because of Fampay’s ₹1,000 limit, he wanted me to send another ₹588 so he could "send me ₹1,000 back." That’s when the red flags went up. I told him to send me ₹1,000 first, and then I’d return ₹588, but he refused, saying he didn’t even have ₹1,000 in his account. When I said I didn’t trust him, he brushed it off with, "Then figure it out yourself" attitude. I immediately contacted Swiggy support, and they confirmed that since my order was prepaid, I didn’t need to pay anything to anyone. They refunded me the ₹412 and assured me they’d take action against the delivery guy, who, by the way, wasn’t answering their calls anymore. Honestly, it’s disappointing how far some people go to scam others, even under the name of a trusted company. I’m sharing this so others don’t fall for the same trick. If your order is prepaid, don’t pay anything extra. If anything seems fishy, call customer support right away. Stay vigilant, folks!
