Terrible encounter with a Kannadiga

I’m (M29) from Haryana here in Bangalore working in Central Government body since January of this year. This evening I went to Zudio HSR along with my girlfriend who is from the North East. I was patiently standing at the billing counter waiting for my turn to get my items billed while my girlfriend was behind me looking at the miscellaneous accessories. Out of nowhere, a guy, who was with his daughter and wife, came up from behind and wanted to cut me off for the billing. I stopped him and told him to wait. He pushed me and said the counter in the extreme left was vacant. So I held him off and told him to wait and proceeded towards the counter but this guy started getting quite aggressive unprovoked . Meanwhile, a Sardarji stepped in and tried to pacify him. But this guy kept coming after me shouting in Kannada and was threatening me. I warned him to stay the hell away and not do what he was doing. He followed me to the counter, trying to push me, swearing in Kannada. I told him not to touch me. He was standing up close to me and I went ahead and stood right in front of him, facing him. He was quite angry and said “this is Karnataka” to which I replied “toh?”. He said “we will chop you up in pieces”. By this time, the guy at counter told him to back off and not cut the line and wait but he kept arguing and again pushed me. I’ve had enough and pushed him off and he went quite far back. After this he knew better to engage physically but went on in Kannada and I thought it’s not good to take it further and just stopped engaging with him. My girlfriend, his family and people around were quite scared. He also had a couple of male friends along but they didn’t bother me. In my 11 months in Bangalore, I have had both good and not so good interactions here with people. Most of the people are actually quite nice and helpful but there’s also this significant proportion of people who hold this Karnataka/Kannadiga SHIELD for their pathetic behaviour. Nothing against this city as I have collected quite a pack of memories here, made great friends and spent such a good time with my girlfriend!
