Rubble Trouble: dumping around rubble is so common. What can be done?
Wherever there’s abandoned construction rubble or neglected corners in the city, it’s inevitably become garbage dumping sites. It’s as if the presence of rubble invites people to throw more waste there. As a stand up comedian once put it- “it looks like the aesthetic style is post-apocalyptic chic”. The interesting part is that the moment the rubble is removed, the dumping stops, and the space becomes cleaner. The issue is that it rarely happens and even the municipality is responsible for leaving extra construction material like paver tiles, pipes etc at the work site. (Example - 100ft road Indiranagar) So, my question is - Does anyone know of any organizations or initiatives that handle this at scale? Are there any models from other cities that have worked in tackling this issue? There’s construction happening at every corner of the city and people lack basic civic sense. Municipality workers pick the waste but this isn’t the long term solution since the rubble keeps getting generated in different areas. Who can help?1
