Renting in Bangalore with Family ā How Do You Handle the Hassle?
I (31M) live in a flat gifted by my parents in a small society (50 flats) near Indiranagar with my wife. We aspire to move to an all-amenity society for our kids (when we have them) and elderly parents (who may come to stay with us), as our current society lacks community spaces. We plan to settle in Bangalore for the long term. While buying such a flat is out of reach, renting seems possible. However, since I have always lived in my own house, Iām struggling with the practicalities: frequent packing/unpacking of like every single item in the house, 10%-30% rent hikes, broker fees, painting charges, and the challenge of finding another flat to stay in the same locality (especially with kids in school). For the most part, you want to stay in the same society also, since you, kids and parents have already made a community over there. I can understand those renting for the short-term in the city, cannot afford a flat currently, too young to think of these life decisions, etc. But those who have consciously taken up renting over buying, how do you handle these hassles with a family? Is the flexibility / cost savings really worth it in the long term? Would love to hear your experiences!4
