Learned Indifference - Root cause of all the problems

The major reason for the problems in our society is learned indifference. It is the indifference which is taught and learned. Our education system makes us indifferent towards the problems of the society. Surely, we teach our kids about these issues but by placing more importance on marks and degrees rather than focusing on the problems, it’s of no practical use. No wonder, with increasing literacy levels, the problems of the society are also increasing.  Learned Indifference is not a coincidence, it has been cultivated by design. Competition makes people inherently selfish. When competition is fed from an early age for a very long time, we get a society where people are only concerned whether their lives are comfortable or not. Capitalism tells us that if every person works for their selfish interest it results in the progress of the civilization. It conveniently ignores the damage caused to the environment and to the social fabric of the civilization in terms of mental health. Isn’t is amazing that all the countries in the world are facing the same issues in spite of being so different in culture, language and social setup. This is because learned indifference is the common underlying pattern.
