Is this city safe enough for a woman to live alone?

I (24F) have recently joined the workforce and am really looking forward to living alone. My office is in the heart of Bangalore (MG Road) and was looking for a 1BHK in the surrounding areas. I know it’ll be expensive but I’m willing to make that sacrifice for some independence. However, I keep hearing from my friends and family about how a woman living alone isn’t ideal because of the problems of safety in this city- so I’m not very sure of this decision now. And especially for women living alone- would you recommend it?
