Cubbon Park Metro Station: Harassed for Choosing a Bike Ride: A Disturbing Experience with Auto Drivers
I booked a bike on Rapido today because it was cheaper, and while I was waiting, an auto driver approached me, asking for my drop location. He then made a derogatory comment, questioning why, as a woman, I would choose to ride with a male bike driver. Offended, I confronted him, saying, "What the hell do you mean?" When my bike arrived, the situation escalated—he and other auto drivers tried to take the bike driver’s key and accused him of causing trouble, even though nobody had asked them to intervene. Meanwhile, people around just watched without stepping in. When I finally got into another auto (since I had no other choice), the driver revealed that the police had instructed auto drivers to harass bike drivers. The entire ordeal left me shaken and furious. I’ve completely lost trust in auto drivers and have decided to avoid them altogether, no matter the cost. From now on, I’m sticking to cabs or bikes. The experience was unnerving, and at one point, I was literally shivering.5
