Civic Compass - Bengaluru. Seeking Community Participation
Hi, I’m part of a group that came together on r/bangalore; we believe that while we cannot change government apathy, it is within our ambit to make small efforts to improve the citizen experience. More about us: [Zen Citizen](https://zencitizen.in/). Our latest effort is a tool to help citizens identify essential details like their BBMP ward, sub-division, zone, district revenue office, closest sub-registrar office, police jurisdiction station, constituencies, etc. Input your location and get the corresponding information. (If you think this type of information is easy to find, check out the[ challenges we've faced in collecting it](https://zencitizen.in/2024/12/25/civic-compass-bengaluru/#appendix)) Please note, this is a Work-In-Progress. While functional, the tool is far from intuitive or aesthetically polished. We learned these skills while balancing work and family commitments. We are sharing this version in the spirit of Community Collaboration. If you have skills in UX, design, web development, or WordPress, and can contribute even 30 minutes a week, please fill out our[ **Volunteer Form**](https://forms.gle/TKwxWceZ9aL3uEQ88). **How to Use the Tool** *The tool renders better on a laptop* 1. Type your exact address into the search bar. (*In some areas, crossing the road can change your ward number!)* 2. Click the pointer on the map to display the information panel. 3. Drag the pointer to view the entire panel. 4. To search for another location, close the pop-up and use the search box again. *The data comes directly from the Karnataka GIS/Open Data city maps, without any modifications to the source data. We’ve only updated labels for clarity. We used QGIS to build the tool.* **Access the tool**[ **here**](https://dm3mzmks1k3ik.cloudfront.net/)2
