Came back to Bengaluru after 2 years. Got scammed the moment I got off the train.
I am dumb af! Here's how it went. I am from Mumbai and I am finally in Bengaluru after 2 years for starting my new job, I got off my train at KSR Bengaluru Station early in the morning at 6, and I had to go to Bellandur. Note that I had 2 suitcases, one backpack and 1 mattress roll. I could not book ola or uber as my phone was switched off - I forgot to charge it and it was really stupid of me. I got approached by a chubby and fat taxi uncle (a dzire cab driver) who was squatted on the footpath and looking at me for a while from the other side. Since I had no other option, I accepted his offer. I always like to sit in the front seat of the cab, so when this driver kept being adamant about why passengers should always sit at the back, I was a little confused. But again, I was sleep deprived and tired from the journey, so I complied and he had me seated at the back and placed the seatbelts on me. A sweet talker, this guy was btw. Just kept talking the whole ride, not stopping for a minute. Halfway through the journey, he asks me to pay only in cash and not UPI; I was going to pay cash anyway, so I didn't find anything odd about that statement. We reached the destination, and I realized this guy's meter was hidden (big mistake, should've checked before getting on). He removed the cloth off of the meter, and it reads 1080/- 🤡. Even then, my brain didn't realize that I was being scammed. AND THEN IT HAPPENED: I take out two 500 rupee notes from my wallet and I hand it to him, and look back at my purse for a split second to get the 80 change. The driver uncle, in that split second, Idk what he did and how he did it, says, " why are you giving me two 100 rupee notes?" and he did have two crisp 100 rupee notes in his hand. I was taken aback! I did a double take, knowing I gave him two 500 rupee notes, but somehow, in a split second, they turned into 100 rupee notes????????? My dumb ass gave him two five hundred rupee notes again, thinking, "maybe I did give him two 100 rupee notes in the first place." He took the money, helped unload my luggage. I kept gaping at him and checking my purse again and again in confusion - as I looked not so convinced, he patted my cheeks and told me I am sleep deprived and so I got confused with the notes and told me to rest well without worrying about this - then drove away I am pretty sure I lost 2100 rupees on the first day I came back to Bengaluru after 2 years. I am such a dumbass 🙃4
