Another side of the Auto drivers story we seldom speak about
We all know the absolute hooliganism some auto drivers bring in and the nightmare that ensues with them. However I would like to share a recent snippet of an incident that happened with my aunts a few days ago while they were returning in an auto and a cab driver rammed into them sideways in a blind corner overturning the auto, the force sent them flying out and falling onto the roadside causing them to sustain injuries and bruises (luckily everyone escaped with few minor injuries and a few scars). The auto however was, completely wrecked. A few bystanders along with the cabbie and the auto driver attended to them and another auto driver who was at the spot offered to help and drove them to the nearest hospital and stayed with them throughout the first aid process and the following scans that ensued late into the night. While I got the news we drove to the hospital and my aunts had informed me that the auto driver who picked them up from the spot of the incident stayed with them at the hospital and insisted he would drop them off to their home since it was late at night and we were all still some time away from reaching the hospital. We bumped into them midway and I told him I would take them from here on and I thanked him for the self less act and gesture. I offered him to pay since he was with them for more than half a day well into the night to which he vehemently refused and said “sir ishtunu maadilla Andre inna ennike? Naanu maanavathvadinda maddidu asthe, please ivella maadbedi “ ( Translation : Sir, if i don’t do this much at-least then what is the use? I did this out of basic human courtesy, I didn’t expect any money from you, please don’t pay me) After much convincing he accepted and reluctantly showed his QR code. My aunt later told me he even went to the spot again to search for my aunts misplaced engagement ring and retrieved it with her. These are incidents that I’m sure happens quite often to a lot of you but rarely gets coverage. The auto drivers community gets a lot of hate and criticism and rightly so for all the antics that they constantly put us through, but this is also another side to them and I can give many such anecdotes about the love hate relationship we have with them :) Do let me know if you’ve had similar instances.3
