    Rant

Happy New Year. We were enjoying a family lunch at a beautiful resort when another family, clearly very wealthy (think Hermes bags and Versace jackets), sat beside us. They were a large group of nine people, including a young girl, perhaps 12 or 13 years old, carrying a school bag and another bag. It became apparent that she was the nanny for their young kid. The family opted for the buffet, loading their plates like a mountain. They went for seconds and thirds. My brother pointed out that the young girl was tasked with holding the baby and entertaining him with videos while the adults feasted. The buffet costed ₹999 per person, which could easily be afforded by the family. I thought maybe when everybody finished eating, the little girl will be given to eat. But No, the resturant was giving complementary desserts, that's the only thing the little girl ate. This blatant disregard for her hunger and desire was deeply disturbing. They could have just made her babysit somewhere else, there was ample space in the resort. Instead, they forced her to witness their extravagant meal while she went hungry. Not just them, the resturant was packed, everybody was eating. This incident starkly illustrates the 'ugly truth' ('সমাজৰ সম্ভ্ৰান্ত পৰিয়ালৰ ফোপোলা স্বৰূপ') of some affluent families – their wealth often masks a callous disregard for the needs and dignity of those who serve them. Beya lagile bey bohut. Enekua koribo napai hosake.
