Why is south more developed than north

Like I was having a discussion few months with a friend who is from south, and he claims that the difference is probably genetic , while it initially triggered me, cause , obviously it sounds racist. But everyday I see, south having better stats, better harmony , better civics sense, better economy that north overall, I kinda feel like a slightly inferior being. Is it actually something to do with genetics? has this been always the case historically? Is it actually a result of geographical factors, that is benefits of coastline etc It if result of history? Shaping the culture the way it is. I looked over genetic data of Indians, and while on micro scale we are kinda diverse, the diversity extends everywhere, and on a macro scale we have a similar genetic distribution, but still I sometimes feel, like do we lack some "civics sense gene" or something like that? I am sorry if it offends anyone, I am just kinda curious and also bit sad.
