Why are some people so ignorant?
I work for a study abroad consultancy headquartered in UK. I am Indian for context, we have branches in Philippines, India and a few other countries. When we run ads online for Philippines, clearly mentioning that we can help you study abroad we get a lot of leads and most of them want to study abroad. But when we run ads in India we get many leads but almost all of them just say we want work. We started to bolden and make text bigger to mention we are education only and we still get people saying they just want jobs. The design team and the sales team are frustrated. We abandoned meta and decided to try LinkedIn where it’s less of a sh*tshow and still it’s the same. Reiterating here that the other 4-5 countries we do advertise it, only people who are interested in studies fill our contact form. On one hand I do understand that most people want to work abroad rather than study but in the past few years we’ve worked with some amazing students who’ve even got scholarships. Is it ignorance or is it just shooting their shot? We have multiple banners on our website saying we are not a recruitment agency and even on the ads we say we don’t deal with employment and still this happens! India is a huge market but we may potentially end up abandoning it. Posting here as a rant and to see if I can get some ideas. Also to note we don’t charge any fees to students, they only pay fees directly to the university and visa fees directly to the Immigration, we help them every step without fees. Our revenue comes from commission from the university.1
