Parent with little children on Flights: Does Consideration for Fellow Passengers Take a Back Seat?

Dear India, May I ask if it is permitted for parents to allow their children to play videos/music on phones/tabs at full volume on Indian flights? Yesterday, after a long haul flight, I boarded an Indigo flight for a 4 hour trip. Exhausted and battling a migraine from jet lag, I was hoping to catch some rest. Unfortunately, a couple in the same row had a 3–4-year-old child watching nursery videos/songs on a tab at high volume throughout the entire flight. As we all know, sounds in an aircraft are amplified, and this only worsened my migraine. I politely asked the parents to lower the volume or use headphones, but they ignored my request. I then asked the flight attendant for assistance, but she brushed it off, saying I should complain to the passengers directly as this is not her job profile. This left me thinking—shouldn’t it be part of her job to ensure a comfortable environment for all passengers, instead of just focusing on selling in-flight products? As a parent myself, I’ve faced challenges traveling with my kids when they were toddlers on 18-hour flights. However, I’ve always made an effort to avoid inconveniencing others by planning their sleep schedules, engaging them in quiet activities like coloring, or strictly enforcing the use of headphones if they wanted to watch something on a device. It was frustrating to see this couple completely disregard inconvenience caused to fellow passengers, with the air hostess doing nothing to address the situation. There were 20 other children of various ages on the same flight, and imagine the chaos if every family decided to let their kids use phones/tabs at high volume. I’d like to know if this is considered okay on Indian/Indigo flights because on international flights, playing devices at high volume—even for kids—is strictly not allowed, and the use of headsets is always enforced. What are your thoughts on this?
