Modernized Slavery
I am at a family function literally today, in a medium sized town in South India. I was surprised to see that one of my cousins(twice removed) had a helping hand, but I couldn't help noticing that they mistreated him so much, he literally broke his back working and doing everything for like 20 hours, and these people pay him 100 rupees 'honorably', and made him come through a dark, back garden path ridden with snakes just for his dinner, and made him sit outside even then, and this happened like 5 minutes ago... I was afraid to ask anyone but I know this is severe casteism and untouchability.... How can I as a person stand up to this problem to my family and fix it? (Or atleast find a way for the poor old man to be treated better?) This made me feel sick and repulsed, maybe because I'm from abroad, so I just wanna know, is this the norm?1
