Is Sania Mirza the most under-appreciated Indian?
I am an early 90s kid and I remember when Sania Mirza started playing and being in the limelight. I believe what she has done for Indian society and Indian women is unparalleled post-independence. There were fatwas issued daily and what not but she continued and represented India with grace. In terms of societal impact, I dont think anyone else remotely comes close to the her (male or female). The confidence she instilled in families to support their daughters in pursuing their dreams changed our country for good. I would be glad if someday she gets a Bharat Ratna, or we collectively asked for her to be awarded. I don’t know about Indira Gandhi and what impact she had as I wasn’t born then. Sachin is deservingly well appreciated - he changed the outlook of everyone by being a child prodigy and being the world’s best despite poor academics (which the middle class believed can’t happen). Posting this because I think she came and went at a time when we didn’t have social media and the current and next generations won’t even know her contributions. What do you guys think?3
