Is it a fair to say that Indians face tremendous pressure from family when it comes to marriage?
Ok I got into an argument and I wanted to know if my observations were relatively accurate or coming off as racist. I'm from the US. At my University's pre-med program a huge percentage of students were from India. During the time they were in the US, many of them developed relationships with Caucasians. Almost all of them were pressured by family to break off the relationships eventually and marry someone the family approved of. This lead to a lot of heartbreaks and eventually most Caucasian girls just started avoiding serious relationships with Indian men because they pretty much always caved to family pressure to end it. Now, I recognize that my observations don't necessarily reflect 100% of Indians but it seemed to be a pretty common pattern. In fact I think only one guy married his college girlfriend and that was because she agreed to move to India. So, I figured I'd ask directly: would you agree this is a thing that happens or is this a racist stereotype?2
