How do other banks and loan lenders know I've applied for or asked for a loan in one bank?

Just outta curiosity; how do these people know I've applied for a loan in a bank? The minute I apply for a loan in a bank, I get multiple calls from other banks/loan lenders too asking if I need a loan. How does that happen? How do they know that?
