Faced a street harassment situation today. What could have I done more?

I (26M) just got back from a trip to the pharmacy to pick up some medicines for my mom, and I witnessed something that's been bothering me. As I was riding my scooty back home, I saw two girls on a scooter being followed and harassed by two guys on a bike. They were clearly trying to intimidate them and were making them uncomfortable. I decided to intervene and followed the guys on my scooty, trying to distract them and give the girls some space. I managed to keep them at bay for about 2 minutes, and the girls were able to get ahead and away from them. However, the guys had a really fast bike and were able to speed past me and catch up to the girls again. Unfortunately, I had to head back home due to some commitments, and I couldn't follow them anymore. But what's been bothering me is that I feel like I should have done more to stop those harrassers. Has anyone else ever been in a situation like this? What would you have done differently? Should I have tried to take a video? Or should I have just let it go and not gotten involved? I'm just feeling a bit frustrated and helpless, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
