Do you think parents need to be informed about making a choice to not have a baby (in Indian family context)?
We’ve all heard the line, “in India, marriage isn’t just in between the partners, it’s between the families.” Chalo, maan liya, ho gayi shaadi sab ki. Does the same kind of logic apply to the decision of having children or not, according to you? My husband (32M) and I (32F) are not on the same page regarding this. We are on the fence about having children and decided together to not have them as both of us are not very fond of kids. But, he is of the opinion that both the sets of parents need to be informed given the growing expectations of having babies quickly and growing the family at this age. My take is that nobody needs to be informed especially if they are going to be disappointed and double down on the pressure instead of understanding and accepting the decision because I believe having a baby is a highly personal choice between the both of us. To this he reminded me that we live in India and to not sound like a Tiffany from Cali 🙄 For me, him telling the parents leaves no scope for changing our mind in the future if even for 0.00001% that were ever to happen. Help us settle this?1
